Burst foils (separating foils) are primarily used to separate media such as powders or liquids from the valve, for example in a fire extinguisher. When required, the burst foil bursts – for instance due to the pressure increase when a fire extinguisher is triggered – so that the extinguishing agent can escape when the valve is opened.
